reliable sources for the history of tattooing

Reliable sources for the history of tattooing

I recommend looking at these sites for background information on tattooing instead of trusting me fully you should do some research for your self before trusting what I say because I may look at some sources that are unreliable.

Tattoos:The Ancient and Mysterious History by Smithsonian this is a very good source for background information and it has some photos that you can look at of ancient tattoos on mummies."Humans have marked their bodies with tattoos for thousands of years. These permanent designs—sometimes plain, sometimes elaborate, always personal—have served as amulets, status symbols, declarations of love, signs of religious beliefs, adornments and even forms of punishment."

Skin stories:The art and culture of polynesian tattoo by pbs this is a great site if you are interested in the background from a different country."The legacy of Polynesian tattoo began over 2000 years ago and is as diverse as the people who wear them. Once widespread in Polynesian societies across the Pacific Ocean, the arrival of western missionaries in the 19th century forced this unique art form into decline."

The Origin of Ink: Tattoos Through Time by fox news this site shows you how tattoos have evolved through out time and how so many different cultures have used them for certain uses."People have been etching tattoos into their skin since the beginning of time. But what are the origins of inking? We turned to Dr. Lars Krutak, an author, world-renowned tattoo expert and anthropologist with the Repatriation Office of the National Museum of Natural History to give us some insight."
